The Fisheries Department has achieved record success in a two-month sanctuary campaign to conserve Jatka Hilsa in the Meghna and Tentulia rivers of Lalmohan Upazila of Bhola. A total of 112 campaigns have been conducted in the Meghna and Tentulia rivers in two months under the initiative of the Upazila Fisheries Department. Lalmohan Upazila Marine Fisheries Officer Md. Saidur Rahman confirmed the matter.

He said, from April 1 to March 30, we have conducted a strict campaign to preserve Jatka Hilsa in the Meghna and Tentulia rivers of Lalmohan upazila. In the campaign of 15 mobile courts, 150 kg of Jatka Hilsa have been seized and distributed to orphanages. 59 thousand meters of illegal Hilsa nets and 3 lakh 96 thousand meters of current nets have been seized. Later, these nets were burnt and destroyed. Besides, a total of 2 lakh 25 thousand taka fines have been collected during this campaign at different times.

Marine Fisheries Officer Md. Saidur Rahman further said that with the guidance of Bhola District Fisheries Officer Biswajit Kumar Deb and Upazila Fisheries Officer Ali Ahmed Akhand and the overall cooperation of the upazila administration, it has been possible to conduct a successful campaign in the Meghna and Tentulia river sanctuaries this year to conserve Jatka Hilsa compared to other years. As a result, fishermen could not go down to the river much without our eyes.

Even then, necessary legal action has been taken against those who went down to the river to fish. Bangladesh Coast Guard and Thana Police members have greatly assisted us in implementing this campaign smoothly. Through which, the Lalmohan Upazila Fisheries Division has been able to achieve record success in the district in conducting this two-month campaign.

In this regard, Bhola District Fisheries Officer Biswajit Kumar Deb said, "Even with limited manpower, the officials of Lalmohan Upazila Fisheries Office have successfully implemented the two-month Jatka Hilsa conservation campaign. This is truly commendable. I am hopeful that with the successful implementation of this campaign, our Hilsa production target will be met properly."
